Theme: The Pitfalls of Hosting
We sing “all are welcome in this place!” and “for everyone born, a place at the table!” and celebrate the radical love of God. We might not want to be the hosts of this party, but we end up in hosting mode as we seek to welcome new people into our congregation and make Beacon Heights a physically and spiritually hospitable space. This scripture story reminds us that there are pitfalls of hosting: Simon is sure that he knows right from wrong and proper from improper. An uninvited guest offers Jesus true hospitality - who is surprising us with true hospitality?
To prepare, please read Luke 7: 36-50.

Would you like to volunteer at the food bank?
New volunteers are always welcome to help with the many food bank needs. Be a shopper or help when food deliveries arrive! (check with Lois Guess)
Servers are also needed on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 until 11:30 or when everyone has been served. If you would like more information or to volunteer as an occasional server, please contact Mary Whitehead, scheduler. (The October, November, December schedule is being put together now.)
Thanks to those who continue to faithfully support the food bank with volunteering, providing groceries, and giving funds.
food bank needs
The Food Bank has been serving an increasing numbers of families. In order to reduce the amount of food our shoppers need to purchase, we will be asking for donations of the most needed food items each week. Currently, our most needed items are pancake mix and syrup. We will also be needing cash donations. Shoppers are still needed for September 27th and October 11th.
You’re Invited to a Picnic!
Please mark Sunday, September 10, on your calendar for the annual Beacon Heights picnic! It will be at the nearby Lions Park after church. Chicken and bottled water will be provided. Please bring a dish to share. We look forward to food and fellowship! There is a sign up sheet on the counter in the church office or you may email (Ruthann.bever@gmail.com) or text (260-341-2965) Ruth Ann to let us know about how much chicken to get! We look forward to seeing you!

Refugee family update
Plan to join us at FWA (Fort Wayne airport) on September 13 when they arrive at 4:01p.m. We want to provide an enthusiastic, warm welcome keeping in mind they will be exhausted from a long journey.
September Ladies’ birthday luncheon canceled
Rather than meet for lunch on September 13, let’s gather together to welcome our refugee family at the airport at 4:01 p.m. on that day. The next Ladies’ Birthday Luncheon will be on October 11.
Make a Joyful Noise unto our God!

Theme: Connecting Shelter and Stewardship
You will not want to miss this message! Janice Shull will share her story about living through Hurricane Katrina, their relocation, and the rebuilding efforts she witnessed. She also will ponder the many ways that we are shelter for one another and others, and the ways that Brethren Disaster Ministries lives into that in concrete ways through our giving.
To prepare, please read Psalm 46: 1-7.
