Theme & Title: Unbounded Love

On this 9/11 Sunday, we consider just where do we draw the boundaries for our love. How do we extend love to the less lovable? How do we love those who have hurt us? The message for this Sunday will come from one of Rebecca Harding’s sermons when she served as pastor for the church in Luray, Virginia.

Please read Leviticus 19:1-12 and Matthew 5:38-48 to prepare.

Weekly Announcements

  • For several weeks more, our Meet and Eat time will explore Jesus in the neighborhood. What do we know - and what should we learn - about our neighbors? How can we meet Jesus in our neighborhood, and be like Jesus in our neighborhood? Join us at 9:30 for something tasty to eat and something interesting to think about! All ages welcome.

  • After worship today, we gather for our annual church picnic at Lions Park! Bring a dish to share and join us for community fellowship at the park.

  • Our next Church Council meeting will be held after worship on Sunday, September 25th -- in just two weeks. We will meet in-person, immediately following worship.

  • Would you like to meet with our Middle schoolers for about 30 minutes during Sunday worship as they begin a Sunday school series: Mantras, Menorahs and Minarets: Encountering Other Faiths? You can sign up for one or more weeks and get more information from Pastor Anna Lisa.

  • Beacon Heights community is invited to join Eel River Community Church of the Brethren for a Children’s Disaster Service (CDS) volunteer training on October 14-15, 2022. For more information, and to learn how to register, please read here!

  • Take a look!
Mailboxes have been shifted so that we're only using the two lowest rows (no more finding a helper for the top row!). Enjoy finding your new location! We have also shifted lost and found to the table in the Fellowship Hall, which is currently brimming with found items from all over the building.

Theme & Title: Your people shall be my people.

We turn to Ruth for poetic example-setting as we step into Stewardship season. Her speech to Naomi is often used for weddings (in one translation): Whither thou goest I will go, whither thou lodgest I will lodge, thy people shall be my people….” Ruth’s covenant to Naomi includes joining Naomi’s people. We say the same to one another as a faith community: you people will be my people! What does our covenant to one another look like as church and culture are rapidly changing? Whether it’s marriage, family or friendship, we know commitment is hard - but committing to one another also can be freeing!

Please read Ruth 1 to prepare.
