This Sunday: October 2, 2022
World Communion Sunday

Theme & Title: Witnessing freedom, harvesting commitment.

As we travel with Ruth this stewardship season, we're gleaning good news. Ruth, Naomi and Boaz creatively fulfill family and covenant. It takes a sandal…?!

Kids: bring a stuffy who makes you feel safe and connected to God in a hands-on way!

All are welcome to share communion as we celebrate God incarnate.

Please read Ruth 4 to prepare.

Weekly Announcements

  • Eat and Meet continues at 9:30 with breakfast and conversation - this week we'll discuss specific plans to increase the hospitality of our corner of Fort Wayne. Kidlandia participants listed "lack of ways to get to know our neighbors" as the biggest challenge in our neighborhood. We have a prime location and spirit to be part of the solution!

  • On October 8th we are invited to join Manchester Church of the Brethren for the Sing Me Home Fall Festival. (More information is offered below.)

  • We invite you to complete a worship survey (available on the office counter) and leave some gleanings for others through our worship together. Surveys can be returned to Carla Kilgore and the worship team.

Please save your can tabs for Linda Wolf or Jennifer Johnson for a fund raiser for Ronald McDonald house. Thanks!

Camp Mack Festival is tomorrow (Saturday, Oct 1) from 10-2! Fair food, games, Lake Waubee, old and new friends! Pastor Anna Lisa Gross and Phillip Zink will be parking attendants and look forward to seeing you there!

“The Mind Matters” | Listen to Episode #134 of the Dunker Punks Podcast

Welcome to the Fall 2022 season of the Dunker Punks Podcast (DPP)! The audio show featuring young and youthful voices of faith kicks things off with a deep dive on the relationship between the Church and mental health. Mycal Gresh brings us her reflections on the intersection of science, healthcare, and faith and ways to continue progressing to help our communities.

Did you know that Beacon Heights is one of the only congregational sponsors of Dunker Punks?! We're helping this happen with a $200 annual donation - but listening to and sharing the podcast would be even more helpful!

You are invited to join Manchester Church of the Brethren for their Sing Me Home Fall Festival on October 8, from 4-10pm. Come and enjoy the music, poetry, storytelling, workshop leadership and more from KelsiCote and other talented artists! More information available here:

Join us for the last B.I.C.Y.C.L.E, ride of the year. The ride will be on Saturday, October 15. We will meet at the Lifebridge Church at 2 pm and head south on the Pufferbelly Trail. There are a number of different options for distances with the longest route being about 15 miles. Snacks and beverages will be provided at the end of the ride. Please let Brian Zehr know if you plan to join us or if you have any questions. Hope to see you then!

Bring in your old shoes!

All through October we will be collecting shoes of any kind -- sneakers, boots, flip-flops, heels -- in any condition. The Heritage Lions Club is collecting them for Changing Footprints. The shoes will go to disaster areas and others in need. Those not good for wearing will be sent to Nike to be made into playground equipment. They are asking groups to help with the collection. Let's clean out our closets and make a large mountain of shoes appear at church. They will also accept old eyeglasses and cell phones.

Witness Commission

Church Women United (CWU) is seeking donations! More information is available on their website.

Theme & Title: Running on Empty

Have you noticed how many of us are trying to function on less than our full capacity? Perhaps you or someone you love is feeling depleted, down, broken, even empty. Recent years have taken a toll on most of us. How do we replenish? In what ways have we been changed? How is God at work in the ups and downs? Join us as we explore the story of Naomi from the book of Ruth.

Please read Ruth 1: 1-22 to prepare.
