ACTIVITY
Create individual advent wreaths! Provide each child with:
a tea light candle
3 purple birthday candles
1 pink birthday candle
a small plate for the base
green play dough
decorative elements (beads, greenery, etc.)
Guide the children to place the tea light in the center of the plate and mold the dough in a wreath shape around it. Place the birthday candles in a circle around the center, and decorate as desired.
Discuss the significance of the advent wreath, and how each candle represents a Sunday leading up to Christmas. In many traditions, each of the candles represents the concepts of Hope (week 1), Peace (week 2), Joy (week 3), and Love (week 4).
Light the candles, leaving the middle candle unlit.
