activity:
In the spirit of looking back, we will create our own Jesse Tree in the Sunday school classroom. Jesse Trees are named after Jesse, the father of King David in the Old Testament, and they have been a Christian custom (in one form or another) since the middle ages. The Jesse Tree is intended to show the stories that led to Christ- a way to look back during the season of advent even as we look ahead to the birth of Jesus.
Using the ornament templates found HERE, children can color their own ornaments to string and hang on the classroom tree. The templates focus on the events named in Look!, but feel free to add any additional Bible stories you would like to share with the children.
Discussion:
How are we connected to these stories of the past?
Where can we see God in our lives today?
What do you think is hard to wait for?
